Attention all Hosts! We need your help. Lets Talk America is a learning experiment in the challenging art of bringing people with differing views together to build a bridge through dialogue. How can we do this more effectively? Please bring your success stories, your suggestions, and your support so together we can refine this art. Some of us are discovering effective strategies, some of us are struggling. Together we can learn how to build the bridge of dialogue to de-polarize our nation. Upcoming LTA/Conversation Café Host Conference Calls:Thursday, October 6th at 5:00 pm PST / 8:00 pm EST - Sign up for this meeting The conference call phone number and pin number are listed in the meeting information. Preparation before the Conference Call:How Does It Work?Call the conference number at the start time. Each TeleClass is facilitated by a trained TeleClass leader. The TeleClass leader welcomes each caller and asks their name and where they are from. TeleClass sessions are usually one hour long, sometimes discussion-based, and occasionally lecture-based. Just like a live seminar, students may participate as much -or as little- as they wish. How much does it cost? The telephone bridge is located in Los Angeles, California. For most people, there is a long distance charge for placing the call. If you are located in the United States, your phone rate may be as low as 5 or 6 cents a minute, or between $3.00 and $4.00 per call. Conference Call Etiquette1. Use your telephone's mute button. If you don't have a mute button, please call from a quiet location. 2. If you have a two-line phone, please turn the ringer off of the second line. 3. Put pets in another room so that the class will not be interrupted by a barking dog or similar disturbance. 4. Don't use a speakerphone unless you use the mute button. Pick up the handset when you share and put the mute button on when you're just listening. 5. Sharing: I will ask for callers to share throughout the call. Please wait to be prompted. If/when you do share, say something like, "Katharine, this is Bob from Seattle." 6. Early/Late Please don't call the bridge before the scheduled time-another conference may be in session. If you're late to the call, no problem, just dial in and be silent until you catch on to what's being discussed.
